NORWALK — U.S. Rep. Robert Latta, R-5, will stop at Berry's Restaurant in Norwalk about 1:15 p.m. today to award Huron County with funding from the Federal Highway Administration, according to the Huron County Engineer's Office. The funding will be used to improve a portion of Greenwich Milan Townline Road. The road is the first one in Ohio to receive FHA's High Risk Rural Roads Program funding, according to the engineer's office.More than $1.5 million have been allocated for significant safety improvements on Greenwich Milan Townline Road from Zenobia Road to Court Road.In order to qualify for the funding, that section of Greenwich-Milan Townline Road had to meet "very strict vehicular crash and accident criteria established by the Federal Highway Administration," according to the engineer's office."I guess you might say it's one of those good news-bad news stories," Huron County Engineer Kovach commented. "All of us are glad we're receiving the funds to correct a bad situation. On the other hand, it took a bad situation to qualify for the funds."Under the federal program, Ohio receives more than $2.5 million each year to dedicate to high-risk rural road safety projects, the engineer's office stated.Huron County actively sought the funds for more than two years to make improvements on the road.
